I found the post I was seeking. Last night, I quickly added 74 books to my Google Library. I gave each book a rating. This is only a sampling of my personal library but Google now knows what I like to read, and which books I already own. By the time I own an electronic reader, Google will be ready to offer me dozens of older, low cost books and dozens more of current, high cost books. My wife is never ready to stay in a book store or a library as long as I. I look forward to browsing the stacks from home.
My vision of the path of newspapers is not as clear as it is for books. I suspect that local content will be critical to the survival and prosperity of thousands of publications. However, local TV and radio stations often put out pretty good "local news blogs" that will give local newspapers a run for their money. The production and distribution costs of e-reader news are so low that perhaps both the local TV blog and the local newspaper will gain sufficient subscribers to prosper. Your post is about one paper that aggregates the news for each person. Is it likely that the software that does that will be on the "back-end"? In other words, I might subscribe to the Winston-Salem Journal and the WXII blog, but instruct my software to not feed me the articles about the garden clubs fee me the articles about the Carolina Tar Heels from both sources?
